In a society that – from their perspective – regularly rewards only the mediocre, the well-connected, and the ready for anything, Luisa, Flavia, and Vincenzo have never managed to fit in. Certainly not because of arrogance or any particular moral virtue, but rather because of their own inability to understand how the world works. And now, having reached the halfway point of their fifties, they realize they find themselves right in the "anvil's eye," that is, those who have always endured and continue to endure life's hammer blows.
