Cirillo, Della Notte, and Beneventano are Neapolitan families from different social backgrounds, yet united by the same fears and loneliness. Their destinies intersect in a general mobilization of affection, dreams, lies, and redemption; but deep down, they seek—like everyone else—perhaps just a little bit of happiness. To narrate this human circus, constantly teetering between blasphemy and devotion, between the heroism of youth and the cowardice of adults, Peppe Lanzetta uses cinematic narration. Like a film, in this novel, the lives of protagonists and extras intertwine, until they converge in a grand finale where everyone regains (desires, dreams of) innocence and joy. Because, ultimately, there's no point in making it tragic, on this grand stage that is life.
