The authors of this volume, almost all born in the 1950s, have used autobiographical language to describe the area where they spent their youth, which coincided with a period of great cultural and political innovation. The area is the ancient village of Porchiano, a part of Ponticelli, a suburb of Naples, long inhabited primarily by farmers and workers. In this rural area, between the late 1950s and the late 1960s, two "spaceships" landed, in many ways opposites: the Rione Fiat, inhabited by farmers expropriated from the land on which the Fiat Poggioreale plant was built, and the Rione Incis, inhabited by state employees from other neighborhoods and the province. At first, in that area poorly connected to the center, coexistence between the different residential nuclei was problematic, but then, especially among the young people, a strong integration was created, which gave rise to "a kind of sociological laboratory in which friendship, love, sex, politics, entertainment, sports, music, and studies were experimented with."
