L'angelo di via del pianto

Roberto climbs over the perimeter wall of the Poggioreale cemetery in the dead of night. Something has brought him here to carry out his solitary enterprise. Something to take, to steal. "The beam of light projected onto the ground allows him to proceed without hesitation. He descends the steps, turns, and shines straight ahead. Here we are. Something white, not far away, stands out against the dark façade of the chapel. There, that's it. It's the statue." The angel stands before him. Illuminated by the torch, it has a ghostly whiteness. Roberto watches it fearfully, but it's only for a moment; he can't have second thoughts. The dirty work, like a low-class thief, is done. The stolen goods pass into other hands, and yet others. But some time later, in the same desecrated place, something singular happens. Perhaps just chance. Perhaps a divine plan.
