A short Spaniard, José de Ribera, sought models among the Neapolitans to paint a series of prophets commissioned by the prior of the Certosa di San Martino. The Frenchman Éric Fonteneau uses drawing to rediscover these men, who became biblical figures thanks to their placement in the Carthusian church; in fact, Ribera's prophets are so prosaic that only their placement in the church, below Giovanni Lanfranco's apostles, allows us to forget their naturalism.
