Among its many admirers, Ferdinand IV of Bourbon was also a great fan of the game of Riversino. The origins of these cards are very uncertain, but they may have appeared in Italy even before Barcelona and France, where the game was widespread in the 17th and 18th centuries. The rediscovery of Riversino is part of a study initiated by Candida Carrino at the State Archives of Naples on the history and stories surrounding card games, which draws on the passionate advice of scholars Vincenzo Capuano and Nicola Antonio De Giorgio.
