A series of true stories of the more than 70,000 children from Southern Italy who were saved from hunger, illiteracy, and disease between 1946 and 1952, thanks to the solidarity of women and men who were beginning to dream of a new Italy. In Naples, the "Committee for the Salvation of Children," coordinated by the PCI, was formed in 1946 and organized the placement of over 12,000 children with families in the North, less affected by hunger and hardship. Other committees sprang up from Rome to Sicily, and the children's trains saved and changed many lives. Through documents, newspaper articles, and firsthand accounts, Simona Cappiello reconstructs a vivid picture of this event, to which she has also dedicated a documentary film (available via QR code) featuring photos and period footage that follows the thread of memory.
