Every work on flânerie should always begin with Walter Benjamin's image of the urban wanderer, capturing his status as a wandering narrator in sociological work. Made famous by Baudelaire, the term refers to someone who idly wanders the city streets, experiencing and experiencing emotions as they observe their surroundings. The flâneur, an emblematic figure of modernizing cities, survives to this day thanks to the contribution of this work edited by Giampaolo Nuvolati (University of Milan-Bicocca) and Lucia Quaquarelli (University of Paris Nanterre). They reveal the evolution of flânerie for the sociological journal "Fuori Luogo" (Fedoa - University of Naples Federico II). Through scholarly reflections and literary narratives by foreign and Italian authors, this book delves deeply into the theme of urban observation. If for the passerby, urban routes are standard paths towards precise destinations, for a flâneur, urban wandering is a labyrinth that changes with every step and is guided by the color of a facade, by the disturbing uniformity of the flow of passersby, by the impudent glances of others.
