He has been a manager of industrial and service companies. He has focused his specialization particularly on the transport and logistics sectors. He worked for the Italian State Railways for twenty years. He then served as general manager and president of the Bologna freight village. He was also the central operations director of ATAC (Italian National Railways). He also served as president of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority. He currently teaches Infrastructure Management at Universitas Mercatorum. He is the author of essays and books on transport and logistics.
