Luciano di Samosata

Lucian of Samosata (c. 120–180 AD) was the foremost satirist of the Roman era. A Syrian-born rhetorician writing in Greek, he was a master of the satirical dialogue, using wit to critique the religious and philosophical follies of his time. Often cited as a pioneer of science fiction for his True History, his influence spans from the Renaissance to Swift. Colonnese Editore highlights his genius in "L'elogio della mosca" (The Fly), a brilliant rhetorical exercise where Lucian defends and praises the common fly. This work perfectly exemplifies his "serio-comic" style, showcasing his ability to elevate the mundane through sophisticated irony and intellectual playfulness.
